“The Sick Die by Sunrise” is a musical journey in four chapters, following the last moments in the life of a bedridden, terminally ill man. We have a glimpse into his thoughts and reminiscences; his doubts and fears, as his final hour approaches.
Is life worth living to its very end, when still being alive is synonym of constant suffering, with no hope of deliverance from our misery? When death comes as the only harbinger of solace, does that mean our distress regarding our own demise simply fades away? What’s the meaning of existence, when we no longer cast a shadow, but the shadows are the ones which cast us?
In a time when euthanasia is a topic being hotly debated in many countries all around the World, religious and political dogma too often take the spotlight, offering nothing more than a simplistic, two-tone view on the subject. “The Sick Die by Sunrise” invites the listener to put aside any preconceptions he might have regarding this issue and take a deeper reflection on it. There are no easy answers to be given where matters of life and death are concerned - naturally, Athanasy doesn’t commit to offer such with their debut album. In “The Sick Die by Sunrise” we simply challenge you to put yourself in this man’s place, if only for a minute, and consider:
